Remember the belt loops are for the scout doing their best to learn about the sport or academic activity, and by putting the new techniques to practice with fellow scouts, in their community, or working with an adult.

  1. Talk with someone who grew up in a different country than you did. Find out what it was like and how it is different from your experience.

  2. Learn 10 words that are in a different language than your own.

  3. Play two games that originated in another country or culture.

Amazing Language Facts

  • There are more than 2700 languages in the world. In addition, there are more than 7000 dialects. A dialect is a regional variety of a language that has different pronunciation, vocabulary, or meaning of words.

  • The most difficult language to learn is Basque, which is spoken in northwestern Spain and southwestern France. It is not related to any other language in the world.

  • All pilots on international flights identify themselves in English.

  • More than a thousand different languages are spoken on the continent of Africa.
